PORT ANGELES — A quick-moving fire destroyed an abandoned, unoccupied house at 102 Motor Ave. (corner of Laurel Street and Motor Avenue) early this morning.
Port Angeles firefighters responded at 2:47 a.m. Mutual aid was called from Clallam County Fire District No. 2.
There was no immediate word what caused the fire.
From Fire Lt. Kelly Ziegler:
“At 2:47 a.m. on Tuesday, August 18th, Port Angeles firefighters were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 102 W. Motor Street.
“Port Angeles Fire Department initially responded with Engine 11 and Medic 11.
“When they arrived, reported that the structure was heavily involved in fire with no immediate threat to nearby occupancies.
“After determining the house was abandoned, fire crews were able to extinguish the fire from the exterior of the structure, and then safely conduct a search inside, confirming the building was unoccupied.
‘Firefighters were able to contain the fire within the structure, however, it was a total loss in value.
“Port Angeles Fire Department responded with 2 engine companies and 2 medic units, a total of 8 personnel. Mutual aid was provided by Fire District 2, which provided one engine and a total of 3 personnel. Fire District 2, along with Olympic Ambulance, responded to 3 emergency calls for the City during the event.
“The cause of the fire is under investigation. There is no estimate at this time as to the dollar loss to the structure or the contents.”
