PORT ANGELES — State Patrol troopers are in the process of clearing multiple collisions along U.S. Highway 101, all of which occurred within a mile of each other just east of Port Angeles this morning.
The collisions backed up early morning traffic for miles.
As of 9:30 a.m., none of the wrecks were blocking either travel lane of Highway 101, State Patrol spokesman Russ Winger said.
State Patrol troopers arrived at the scene of a two-car collision near the intersection of Monroe Road and Highway 101 between 7 a.m. and 7:30 a.m., Winger said.
The wreck was cleared relatively quickly, with one person transported to Olympic Medical Center, though the name and condition of the individual was unknown this morning.
After clearing that collision, troopers moved to the scene of a wreck involving at least six vehicles, including a semi truck, at about 7:55 a.m. at the intersection of North Baker Street and Highway 101, west of the collision at Monroe Road, Winger said.
The most recent State Patrol and state Department of Transportation reports list this collision as no longer blocking the roadway.
State Patrol also responded to a four-car collision at the intersection of Highway 101 and Leighland Avenue, Winger said.
Winger said he had been told of one injury, but had no details as of 9:30 a.m.
The Leighland wreck was no longer blocking Highway 101, he said then.
Soon after the Baker Street collision was moved to the side of the road at about 9 a.m., the State Patrol received a report of another wreck in the same ares involving two vehicles, Winger said.
Winger said he heard of injuries in this collision, but did not know how many.
As of 9:30 this morning, the second Baker Street wreck had been moved to the side of the road and was no longer blocking Highway 101 traffic.
State Troopers are investigating the causes of these collisions, Winger said.
“All this is not going to get sorted out for quite a while,” he said.

PORT ANGELES — A collision blocked one lane of U.S. Highway 101 at Baker Street this morning.
The 7:55 a.m. collision has blocked the westbound lane at milepost 250, the state Department of Transportation said.
Flaggers are diverting traffic through the one open lane.
Both lanes are expected to be reopened soon, said a Transportation representative.
The State Patrol is on the scene.
No other details are available now.
