UPDATE — Man jailed after chase through Port Angeles eastside Safeway

PORT ANGELES — A man wanted on a felony warrant remained in the Clallam County jail Saturday after deputies chased him through the eastside Safeway and subdued him with a stun gun on Friday.

Anthony Robert Forshaw, 27, was arrested on investigation of obstructing a law enforcement officer, unlawful possession of a legend drug and bail jumping. He also is being held on a preexisting felony warrant for his arrest.

No bond had been set as of Saturday.

Sgt. Eric Munger of the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, gave this account in a news release:

Deputies were told at about 2:05 p.m. that a wanted person was a location east of the Safeway Store located at 2709 East U.S. Highway 101.

Arriving there, deputies saw a man matching the description of the wanted person coming from the area of an abandoned house just east of the Safeway Plaza.

They asked him to stop. He looked in their direction, but instead of stopping, he took off running.

Deputies ran after him. He threw his coat and other various items to the side as he was running, ducked into the Safeway and hid in a storage area at the rear of the store.

Deputies found him and he ran again, pushing bread carts and other items at them to slow their pursuit as he fled into the public area of the store.

A deputy incapacitated him with a stun gun and he was taken into custody.

Deputies said that one of the items the man threw to the side during the pursuit was a pill bottle, not properly labeled, that contained an oxycodone pill.
