GLASGOW, Scotland — Early returns reported in Scotland indicate that a referendum weighing independence is losing.
The Scotsman newspaper reported that Yes votes are running in the low 40th percentile. However, only 2 of 36 polling stations have reported.
A Yes vote favors breaking Scotland off from Britain — England, Northern Ireland and Wales — after more than 300 years.
In London, British Prime Minister David Cameron will Friday set out plans for a landmark reform of the UK constitution based on the Scottish independence vote, even though it’s failing, The Scotsman reported.
Scots appear to be backing a No vote after the early election declarations around the country, from the remote windswept islands in the north to the tenements of Glasgow.
