UPDATE — Carlsborg stabbing suspect appears in court today; victim’s wounds not life threatening

PORT ANGELES — A Carlsborg man made his first court appearance today at the Clallam County Courthouse, two days after his ex-girlfriend was stabbed five times in the alley between their homes.

Deeon Emilio Gonzales, 20, surrendered peacefully to deputies Sunday morning, and was booked into the Clallam County jail Sunday afternoon for investigation of attempted murder in the stabbing of the mother of his child, according to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.

Gonzales made his initial court appearance to set an arraignment hearing for possible charges of attempted murder.

The stabbing took place outside his residence at around 4:20 p.m. Saturday, according to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.

Chief Criminal Deputy Ron Cameron said today the name of the victim was not yet available, but added that while her wounds were serious, they were not believed to be immediately life threatening.

Olympic Medical Center, where the victim was taken, does not release conditions of patients unless their name is known.

Clallam County Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a stabbing at about 4:20 p.m. Saturday in the alley between Streit and Carlsborg roads, just south of Spath Road in Carlsborg.

Gonzales and the victim were reported to live only a few houses apart in the same neighborhood, Munger said.

According to a Sheriff’s Office report, witnesses said they saw a confrontation between Gonzales and the victim in the alley between their separate homes.

During the confrontation, witnesses said the couple passed their child back and forth between them.

The witness looked away and looked back when they heard the victim scream.

The witnesses said they saw the victim on the ground, and Gonzales was holding the baby while he stabbed the victim several times.

Gonzales then fled with the child toward his own residence adjacent to the crime scene.

Deputies located the child, who is around 18 months old, safe and apparently unharmed in the residence.

The victim was transported to Olympic Medical Center.

On Saturday, an 8-hour search for Gonzales was conducted by deputies, officers from the Sequim Police Department and members of the U.S. Border Patrol.

The initial search was called off at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

On Sunday, Sheriff’s deputies continued following up on tips received from the public until they were notified at about noon that Gonzales had turned himself in.
