PORT ANGELES — A house was severely damaged Monday in an early morning fire.
The house at 524 N. Jones St. has been empty for a few months, said Karen Scott, a longtime neighbor.
The call went into Port Angeles Fire Department at 2:20 a.m. on Monday.
Scott said by the time she had awakened, someone else had already called the Fire Department.
“I woke up and heard what sounded like an explosion,” she said. “When I came out it was all on fire.
“I’m just so glad that no one was inside.”
Scott said the house is owned by Betty Brown, who moved to a nursing home in Sequim.
“Her kids had just had an estate sale just a week ago, and I saw them moving the rest of the stuff out yesterday,” Scott said.
