United Way’s annual fundraising campaign kicks off Friday

PORT ANGELES — United Way of Clallam County will begin its annual fundraising campaign with a kickoff party at Barhop Brewing & Artisan Pizza on Friday.

Admission is free. Food and drink will be available to be purchased from Barhop at 124 W. Railroad Ave., Port Angeles.

The business will donate a portion of the proceeds to the campaign, said Christy Smith, chief executive officer.

The goal this year is $800,000. The campaign chair is Lori Taylor of Umpqua Bank. Donations will be designated for nonprofits in 2019.

United Way of Clallam County has 24 nonprofit partners. Donors can give money for any use or can designate it to a particular nonprofit.

And it doesn’t have to be one of United Way’s partners, Smith said.

As part of the kickoff of the campaign, special sections with a report to the community are planned in the Peninsula Daily News, Sequim Gazette and Forks Forum this week.

United Way volunteers also will perform community service on two days for its annual Day of Caring in honor of the National Day of Service and Remembrance.

Volunteers will work at the Dream Playground at Third and Race streets in Port Angeles from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and at Carrie Blake Community Park at 500 N. Blake Ave, in Sequim from 8 a.m. to noon Monday, Sept. 10.

Community members are invited to help spread bark, rake and paint. Snacks and water will be provided.

Another aspect of the campaign will be in Forks from Sunday, Sept. 9 through Sept. 22.

A portion of the proceeds from participating businesses each day of the Forks Restaurant Days will go to United Way.
