WASHINGTON — A U.S. official says Osama bin Laden was shot above his left eye, blowing away part of his skull.
The precision kill shot was delivered by a member of Navy’s elite SEAL Team Six during a pre-dawn raid Monday on bin Laden’s hideout in Pakistan.
Photos of bin Laden’s injuries were transmitted to Washington as proof that the mission was a success. The Obama administration has not released any of the photos.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to reporters.
A faked photo of bin Laden’s body has been circulating on the Internet since Monday. It is said to have been created using an earlier picture of bin Laden and another showing the bloodied face of an unidentified man.
