Two women die in Sequim residence; child found in home

SEQUIM — Two women were found dead in a Sequim residence and a child, who had thought his mother and the other woman were sleeping, is under the care of Child Protective Services.

The two women, who were 34 and 57 years old, were found at about 3:30 p.m. Monday at a Sequim residence in the 200 block of Dungeness Meadows, said Sgt. Shaun Minks of the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, on Tuesday.

Foul play is not suspected at this time, he said.

A 911 caller reported finding the two deceased women at the residence, which was the home of one of the women, Minks said. The man had come by to check on the women because he hadn’t heard from them for a while, Minks said.

The 7-year-old child answered the door and told the man that the women were there and that they were asleep. He let the man in. One of the women was his mother.

When the man discovered the women were dead, he called emergency dispatchers.

Deputies found evidence of drug and alcohol use in the bedroom where the females were located, according to Minks, who said that although an overdose is suspected, no conclusion can be drawn until after toxicology test results come in.

An autopsy is expected sometime this week.

Deputies contacted detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau of the sheriff’s office. They are continuing the investigation, Minks said.

The child was taken into protective custody and was later turned over to Child Protective Services.

He probably will be placed with relatives, Minks said.
