Two taken to hospital after DUI collision

SEQUIM — Two people were taken to Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles after a collision on U.S. Highway 101 west of Sequim.

Kenneth Krom, 48, of Sequim was driving a 2018 Chevy Camaro westbound on Highway 101 at milepost 264 about 9:05 p.m. Monday when he struck the vehicle in front of him and came to rest in the ditch on the westbound side of the highway, the State Patrol said.

Krom faces potential charges of driving under the influence and vehicular assault, the State Patrol reported.

Krom was not injured but transported to the hospital. His passenger, Dillon Cummings, 33, of Sequim, was injured and also transported to the hospital. Both were wearing seat belts.

Krom struck a 2002 GMC pickup driven by Owen Cline, 27, of Sequim, whose vehicle came to rest in the ditch on the eastbound side of the highway.

Cline, who also was wearing a seat belt, was not injured.

Both vehicles and a utility trailer connected with the GMC pickup were taken to the State Patrol bullpen in Port Angeles, the State Patrol said. The Camaro and the utility trailer were totally destroyed, and the GMC pickup sustained reportable damage, the agency said.

The State Patrol cited DUI and speed as factors in the collision.
