LAPUSH — Two people were in intensive care in a Seattle hospital Saturday after a two-car head-on crash in LaPush on Friday in which one car caught fire.
Cheryl L. Holcomb, 56, of Forks and Nicole L. Realing, 39, of Forks were airlifted from the wreck at Milepost 12 on LaPush Road, west of Forks.
State Patrol reported that Holcomb was driving a 2000 Kia Sportage westbound on LaPush Road and crossed the centerline, hitting Realing and her passenger, Carl E. Realing, 55, of Forks. Realing’s 1996 Ford Explorer was traveling eastbound.
The passenger was not injured, according to the State Patrol.
The State Patrol said the Explorer rolled onto its passenger side and landed in a roadside ditch.
The Sportage rotated, coming to rest facing eastbound in the westbound lane.
Passers-by said one vehicle caught fire following the crash and was extinguished before police or fire crews arrived.
The wreck is under investigation. Neither drugs nor alcohol were involved, according to the State Patrol.
The roadway was closed for 2½ hours while crews tended to the injured and removed the vehicles.
Both vehicles were destroyed in the crash, the State Patrol said. They were towed and impounded.
Responding agencies included the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, Forks Police Department, Clallam County Fire Department, Forks Fire Department, Forks Ambulance, Quileute Public Works, Quileute Fire Department and LaPush Police Department.
