PORT ANGELES — Two members of the Port Angeles Police Department have been promoted.
Cpl. Jesse Winfield was promoted to the rank of sergeant. Detective Tom Kuch was promoted to corporal.
Chief Terry Gallagher swore in Winfield as a sergeant and Kuch as a corporal at the Police Department on Friday.
Both officers, in addition to having excellent work performance, scored at the top of an intensive promotion assessment center testing process that occurred last week at City Hall, said Deputy Chief Brian S. Smith in a statement.
Kuch, who has served with the department since December 1998, will work as an assistant shift supervisor/relief watch commander assigned to a patrol shift.
He will continue in his role as the department’s mental health liaison and crisis intervention training facilitator.
Prior assignments include detective, school resource officer and field training officer.
He began his career in Forks and worked for the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office prior to joining the Port Angeles department.
Winfield, a member of the police force for more than 18 years, will serve as a shift supervisor/watch commander in charge of a patrol shift.
Prior assignments include two years as a patrol corporal, 10 years as a detective and seven years as a police officer, in addition to working as a field training officer.
Winfield “has led or been a team member on numerous complex and long-term criminal investigations, as well as numerous high-profile events,” Smith said, adding that Winfield had won several awards.
He worked for the Olympia Police Department before joining the Port Angeles department.
