SEQUIM — A 40-year-old Port Ludlow woman and her 12-year-old daughter died in a car wreck on U.S. Highway 101 near Sequim on Saturday, the State Patrol said Tuesday.
Found dead at the scene were April L. Schondelmeyer and her daughter, Lyllian R. Moore, both of Port Ludlow. Their names were not released until Tuesday due to the time it took to notify next of kin in Nebraska, according to the State Patrol.
Schondelmeyer’s Chrysler PT Cruiser was traveling eastbound on the highway at about 1:30 p.m. when it crossed the centerline near milepost 266 just west of Happy Valley Road and struck a Dodge Ram pickup carrying Thomas A. Cain, 62, of Poulsbo and Sandra R. Metro, 61, of Sequim.
Metro was in serious condition and Cain was in satisfactory condition Sunday at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Harborview representatives did not return phone calls seeking updates on Cain and Metro’s condition Tuesday.
Metro, Cain and Moore were wearing seat belts; Schondelmeyer was not, according to the State Patrol.
The highway was blocked for six hours and 30 minutes for investigation.
