PORT TOWNSEND — Two people were hurt when a car ran into the back of their vehicle while it was stopped without rear lights on U.S. Highway 101 at West Uncas Road, the State Patrol said.
Jennifer K. Banta, 42, of Wellford, S.C., was taken to Harborview Medical Center on Tuesday after the 5:08 p.m. Monday wreck. Her condition was not available on Tuesday.
Her passenger, Jeremy J. Davis, 38, of Bremerton was treated and discharged Monday from Jefferson Healthcare hospital in Port Townsend.
Both were in the car that was struck. The three people in the other car — Yukon C. Lam and two children — were unhurt, troopers reported.
The State Patrol said Banta had stopped, headed northbound at the intersection with no lights showing. Lam was northbound on Highway 101 approaching West Uncas Road and hit the car.
The cause of the wreck was Banta’s failure to use required lighting, the State Patrol memo said.
Sunset was at 4:23 p.m. on Monday.
The State Patrol said that the car driven by Banta, a 1995 Suburu Legacy, was completely destroyed. The car driven by Lam had reportable damage.
All five people were wearing seat belts. Neither drugs nor alcohol were involved, the State Patrol said.
