PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles woman was no longer listed on the patient roster of Harborview Medical Center in Seattle as of Saturday morning after the pickup truck she was driving left U.S. Highway 101 on Friday night and hit a tree.
The injuries suffered by Lisa G. Penebarnes, 47, didn’t appear to be life-threatening, said Trooper Russ Winger, State Patrol spokesman.
Her passenger, Michael J. Procunier, 48, also of Port Angeles, was taken to Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles and had been discharged by Saturday morning.
Penebarnes was driving a 1997 Ford F-250 pickup truck east along Highway 101 just west of Dry Creek Road at about 11:40 p.m. when the truck left the eastbound lane, crossed the opposing lane, drove into the Lower Elwha Health Clinic parking lot and struck a tree, the State Patrol said.
The cause of the wreck is under investigation, Winger said, adding that drugs or alcohol is thought to be involved.
“They suspect there could be some impairment,” Winger said Saturday, adding that a blood sample was taken from the driver.
Penebarnes was wearing a seat belt, the State Patrol said, while Procunier was not.
