Two hurt in Highway 104 wreck

PORT TOWNSEND — Two Beaverton, Ore. residents were treated at Jefferson Healthcare hospital and discharged after a collision involving a Dodge Ram pickup pulling a trailer that fishtailed on state Highway 104, the State Patrol said.

Toann N. Nguyen, 44, and Kiem-Chau T. Nguyen, 69, were not admitted to the hospital after the mid-day Friday wreck, a spokeswoman said.

Toann Nguyen and Kiem-Chau Nguyen were traveling with three people who were not injured — Trang P. Tran, 46; Tri Nguyen, 13; and Minh Nguyen, 12.

They were in a 2015 Nissan SUV being driven by Toann Nguyen westbound on 104 at about noon Friday when the collision occurred 16 miles southeast of Port Townsend, State Patrol spokeswoman Marka Segrest said in a news release.

Pickup driver Bonnie J. Short, 75, of Chimacum, was cited for for driving too fast for conditions, Segrest said. She was not hurt.

Short’s pickup was towed from the scene, and Nguyen’s SUV was destroyed, State Patrol said.

Short was eastbound on 104 when her trailer started swerving and struck the eastbound guardrail, the State Patrol said.

The trailer slid across the roadway and into Nguyen’s Infiniti, pushing it into the westbound guardrail.

The pickup rotated and came to rest on the center line, with the trailer on its side across the westbound lane.

The two drivers and the passengers were wearing seat belts, Segrest said.

No drugs or alcohol were involved, the State Patrol said.
