Two found dead in Port Angeles home (including Port Angeles Police Department news release)

PORT ANGELES — Two people were found shot dead at a Port Angeles home Sunday — apparently a woman and her ex-boyfriend, Police Chief Terry Gallagher said.

The woman was identified Sunday night as Christin Stock, 35, who lived in the house at 1304 S. Oak St. with her two children.

Gallagher said Jeffrey Calvert, 41, from the Seattle area — who apparently broke into the home through the back door — also was dead of a gunshot wound or wounds.

Gallagher was unable to confirm Sunday night that Calvert shot Stock and then himself, but he did say police were not looking for another shooter.

“We do not have a suspect loose in the community,” he said.

Police had already received a garbled 9-1-1 call and were en route to the general area of the house at 13th and Oak streets around 5 p.m. Sunday when a second call came in to dispatchers.

A 9-year-old girl who apparently made the first call called 9-1-1 again, telling authorities that a man with a gun had broken into the house, Gallagher said.

The girl identified the man and even spelled out his name to dispatchers as officers arrived, the police chief said.

“Police got there as fast as they could and heard the first shot fired as they approached the intersection [of 13th and Oak],” Gallagher said.

The officers surrounded the house and went inside when they heard more shots, he said.

Police policy dictates that when shots are heard, officers immediately enter, Gallagher said.

The officers found Stock and Calvert already shot.

Paramedics were called in, but neither gunshot victim was able to be revived, he said.

Police found two girls, ages 9 and 11, upstairs, where they apparently had fled, Gallagher said.

He did not name the children.

“It appears that the ex-boyfriend showed up from either the Seattle or maybe Bellingham area,” Gallagher said.

“The relationship probably ended a few months ago, and we understand that the man had put in some effort to re-establish the relationship,” he said, “and she had rejected those efforts.”

He said the back door of the house showed signs of forced entry.

Stock apparently lived in the home with her parents, Heather and George Irwin, and her two children, Gallagher said.

David Sharnbroich, a neighbor, said he knew the family but hadn’t heard any trouble from them in the years they lived next door.

“They have been really, really nice, a really mellow family,” Sharnbroich said.

He added that he had never seen police at the house before Sunday, and that he seldom saw the family during the week.

Sharnbroich said Heather Irwin is a doctor in Olympia, and she and her husband spend most of the week in Olympia and return to Port Angeles on the weekends.

Heather Irwin, M.D., is listed in the Olympia telephone directory as an obstetrician/gynecologist. She was apparently out of town Sunday.
