PORT ANGELES — Two people are in custody after a foot chase in the neighborhood around Lincoln Park on Tuesday afternoon.
A third person, who is known to police, escaped, said Port Angeles Deputy Police Chief Brian Smith.
Police know that one of the people taken into custody is a juvenile, Smith said, and are withholding the names of others until their ages can be established.
Two people were arrested for investigation of resisting arrest, obstruction of a law enforcement officer and criminal trespassing.
Officers were in the area investigating a series of burglaries in the Milwaukee Street area when a resident on Butler Street reported three prowlers in his backyard at about 1:30 p.m., Smith said.
Kilo, a Port Angeles police dog, and his handler, Officer Allen Brusseau, and other officers tracked two of people to a backyard, where they were hiding in a canvas structure, Smith said.
Officers from several agencies assisted in containment and in tracking the three people, one of whom slipped out of the containment area, Smith said.
Port Angeles police have not positively connected the three individuals to the string of burglaries that took place in the area.
“We’re trying to figure out if there is evidence,” Smith said.
