‘Twilight’ parties celebrate vampire’s birthday

More than 100 fans are ready to wish their favorite Twilight vampire character a happy 17th birthday — again.

Dazzled by Twilight, a fan store with locations in Forks and Port Angeles, will host parties for Edward Cullen — the enigmatic vampire protagonist of author Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight saga — in both Forks and Port Angeles.

The party for the fictional character is themed “17 Again” and will begin in Port Angeles in the morning and continue in Forks in the afternoon.

“Everyone is welcome, and it is free of charge,” said Annette Root, owner of Dazzled by Twilight.

Slightly more than 100 fans have sent an RSVP to the Forks music and picnic event by e-mail, Root said.

“We wanted to have small events throughout the year for the fans to enjoy,” Root said.

“We’ll have a couple of school groups raising money and some food and music.

“It will be a lot of fun.”

Although the novels, which are set in Forks, don’t specify Edward’s birthday — he is, after all turning 17 for the 90th-or-so time — Meyer specified his birthday as June 20 on her Web site, so a party was scheduled, Root said.

Grand opening

The celebration in Port Angeles is the official grand opening of the Dazzled by Twilight store at 135 E. Front St., said Victoria McDonald, manager.

It will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The celebration will include a Me & Edward photo contest, with entrants bringing their best photographs of “cardboard Edward” or “pocket Edward,” McDonald said.

The store also will host a look-alike contest and the Ultimate Fan Twilight Trivia contest, she said.

The day will continue with at Tillicum Park in Forks — the home of the famed vampire and his human love interest Bella Swan.

The day will be low-key, with a picnic from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Root said.

The birthday party will include cupcakes and the Spartan Boosters Club selling Indian tacos, Root said. Three Hole Punch of Portland will perform music.

“They play music from the ’50s through modern day,” Root said.

“But they’ll have a couple of special surprises.”

The four books in the series — Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn — have remained best-sellers for the past two years.

Although an RSVP is not required for the Forks celebration, it is helpful for planning, Root said.

The best way to RSVP is by e-mail to annette@dazzledbytwilight.com, she said.
