PORT ANGELES —Tumwater Truck Route is expected to reopen between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. today.
About one-half-mile of the road, which is state Highway 117, had been closed since Aug. 4 for reconstruction of the surface under the new Tumwater Creek bridge.
The previously split highway has been reconstructed into one two-lane highway connecting the north and south ends of the Truck Route.
The new bridge — under construction now along with its twin on Eighth Street, the Valley Creek bridge — doesn’t need such a pillar, so the split in the road was removed
The work on Tumwater Truck Route was part of the $18.4 million project to replace the two Eighth Street bridges.
Motorists can still expect occasional, but brief, traffic delays on the road during construction, said Teresa Pierce, city spokeswoman.
The new bridges will be 47 feet wide, have two 12-foot travel lanes, two 5-foot bicycle lanes and two 6.5-foot sidewalks. Both bridges will also feature two pedestrian viewpoints.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
