PORT ANGELES — Sissi Bruch, a community garden coordinator working for the Lower Elwha Klallam tribe, will present “Gardening for Health” on Tuesday, Oct. 26.
The presentation will be at noon at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.
Bruch will discuss the tribe’s struggle to maintain cultural traditions and its effort to bring back the traditional use of plants.
She will share how a grant from the Washington Health Foundation – Healthiest State in the Nation Campaign helped set up gardens for the tribe for teaching about gardening, composting and involving the community interested in gardening.
She will provide a brief history of the tribe, its view on plants, the clinic garden, the day care garden and the education garden.
Bruch is a registered landscape architect, urban planner and Washington State University Extension Service Master Gardener.
This presentation is part of the “Green Thumbs Garden Tips” brown bag series sponsored by the WSU Clallam County Master Gardeners on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month in Port Angeles.
Presentations are from noon to 1 p.m. at the courthouse, and are free and open to the public. Participants should bring their own lunches.
