PORT ANGELES — John Greystoke, a Port Angeles man charged with stabbing his roommate in the abdomen last month, will get a new trial date in June.
Greystoke, 49, is charged with first-degree assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly stabbing a man who had been staying at his apartment in the 800 block of South C Street on April 24.
Greystoke pleaded not guilty at his May 6 arraignment and was previously scheduled to go to trial June 20.
Defense attorney Loren Oakley of Clallam Public Defender reported Friday that his client would likely need a psychiatric evaluation before trial.
“Upon reviewing this case, I don’t think we’ll be able to go to trial on June the 20th,” Oakley told Clallam County Superior Court Judge Christopher Melly.
“I suppose we can go ahead and strike the jury now.”
The two-day trial will be reset at 1:30 p.m. June 10.
Port Angeles police said they found the victim bleeding profusely on a C Street curb at about 6:30 a.m. April 24.
Bystanders had covered the man’s abdomen with towels.
Officer David Dombrowski of the Port Angeles Police Department said a portion of the victim’s intestines were hanging out of his torso from a severe laceration.
The man was treated for several days at Olympic Medical Center and recovered from his injuries.
Greystoke is being held in the Clallam County jail in lieu of $200,000 bail.
