PORT ANGELES — A trailer home was destroyed and a dog was unaccounted for after a fire broke out in a junkyard in west Port Angeles.
The fire was reported at a junkyard at about 5:30 p.m. today, Tuesday, on the north side of U.S. Highway 101 near Reddick Road.
The owner of the trailer home, Phil Sisson, and another unidentified resident were safe outside of the home, said Lt. Troy Tisdale of Clallam County Fire District No. 2.
Firefighters had to snake hoses through a narrow opening between equipment and junkyard items to reach the fire.
By 6:15 p.m. the fire was under control, and firefighters were in mop-up operations, Tisdale said.
One of the resident’s dogs was unaccounted for, and it was not known if the dog was in the trailer home or loose in the junkyard, he said.
Fire District 2 responded to the fire with four firefighting vehicles and about 15 firefighters, while Port Angeles Police Department closed westbound Highway 101 from South Airport Road to South Reddick Road.
