FORKS — Work continued this week on a trail outside of Forks that is expected to be open by next summer.
The two-mile trail one mile east of Forks in the Elk Creek area is a project of the North Olympic Land Trust, said Lorrie Campbell, stewardship manager.
Olympic Corrections Center inmates and volunteers with the Pacific Coast Salmon Coalition helped to create the trail through the 250-acre property.
Once finished, it will be open to hikers and people on horseback.
“Most of it already exists. We just need to make the connection,” Campbell said.
She said she walked in the area recently and saw “30 coho spawning” in the water just off the trail.
