SEQUIM — Less than two weeks after a plane crash claimed the life of a 9-year-old relative, the Triplett family has been stunned by a second tragic death.
David G. Triplett, 38, was killed late Monday or early Tuesday when his car veered off U.S. Highway 101 north of Brinnon, overturned and slammed into a tree.
David Triplett’s death comes only 10 days after his niece, Cheney Triplett, 9, was killed in a private plane crash off Orcas Island.
Cheney was trapped in the plane when it sank.
Cheney’s sister, Jenna Lisa, and her parents, Michael and Terri Ann Triplett, survived the Jan. 18 single-engine Piper P28-131 crash in the cold waters of President’s Channel north of Orcas Island.
The survivors were transported to a Bellingham hospital for treatment and have since returned home to Orcas Island.
Michael Triplett, who suffered a broken leg in the crash, is the brother of David Tripplett.
A road worker found David Triplett’s white 1992 Ford Escort early Tuesday over an embankment near Brinnon, Washington State Patrol Trooper Galin Hester said.
The car was apparently southbound when it ran off the road, the trooper said.
