PORT ANGELES — Work crews from Titan Earthwork, LLC will begin a project at 7 a.m. Monday to upgrade traffic signals.
The project will begin at the intersections of Race and Front streets; Race and First streets; and Peabody and First streets, but it will include 13 intersections between Oak Street and Del Guzzi Drive in the corridor between First and Front streets.
The crews will replace signal timing equipment with modern software, install pedestrian signals and more than 50 ADA-compliant curb ramps.
“This project represents an important coordinated step forward in pedestrian accessibility and responsive traffic flow improvements along this critical transportation corridor,” city engineer Jonathan Boehme said.
Drivers and pedestrians can expect detours and delays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays; flaggers will be onsite to direct traffic through the construction zones.
The project, which is expected to continue through December, is fully funded by a $5,654,520 Highway Safety Improvement Program grant from the state Department of Transportation.
