SEQUIM — Brian Klein won first place and $100 in the city of Sequim’s third annual Karaoke Idol competition.
Fourteen contestants sang Tuesday, Aug. 5, as part of the 2014 Music in the Park program at the James Center for the Performing Arts at 202 N. Blake Ave., just north of Carrie Blake Park.
Klein won first place for his renditions of “You Sang to Me” and “Unchained Melody.”
Ron Gwaldis won second place and $50 while Natalie Wilson took third place and $25 in the competition.
Hosts for the evening were Pepper Fisher and Sue Hagener.
The judges were Elray Konkel, city administrative services director; Mayor Candace Pratt; and Councilman Ken Hays.
Three more nights of free, open-air music are planned in the Music in the Park program, all from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the James Center for the Performing Arts.
On Tuesday, Stardust will play Big Band sounds.
The following Tuesday, Aug. 19, Twisted Roots will perform folk music.
The final concert of the season will be the music of the Navy Band of the Northwest.
The 10-week Music in Park program is funded by local businesses and residents.
The presenting sponsor for the 2014 program is Kitsap Bank.
The city of Sequim is now accepting sponsorships for the 2015 Music in the Park program.
