PORT ANGELES – The Clallam County Auditor’s staff will attempt to count an estimated 9,500 last-minute ballots today, enough to possibly tip the balance between some pairs of candidates.
Auditor Patty Rosand said 5,400 ballots arrived Thursday at the county courthouse in the mail and from the drop box at the vehicle/vessel license center in Sequim.
The ballots boosted Clallam County’s voter turnout to almost 57 percent.
It had amounted to only 35 percent the day before the election.
“I’m most happy to see that voters got out on Election Day,” Rosand said.
She promised to count and report as many ballots as possible by 4:30 p.m. today.
The recently arrived ballots represent more than 39 percent of the total turnout.
