PORT TOWNSEND — State Department of Natural Resources regional representatives updated the Board of Jefferson County Commissioners on second quarter timber sales.
“Second quarter, we got a partial payment on Last Crocker Sorts Resale for $375,000,” Drew Rosanbalm, DNR’s assistant Olympic Region manager, said Monday.
A chart included in the meeting’s agenda showed money was wire transferred to the county.
A recent sale to another property called AC Alder was completed for almost $123,000, Rosanbalm said.
“PA Hardwood’s got that one,” he said. “It looks like they’re probably gonna work on that one next year.”
In the first part of 2026, DNR expects a sale on a piece of property called Disco Sorts, Rosanbalm said.
He added the Skitter Line property, located on Skitter Hill, near Discovery Bay, is expected to sell in December.
“At least at this point, it’s 100 percent county,” he said. “$723,150 is just my estimate of what we should be able to bring in on that one.”
The timber sale on the property won’t expire until 2027, he said.
“I would expect, probably some road building on it next summer, and then harvest in summer of 2027,” Rosanbalm said.
Rosanbalm said the DNR expects an average of $1 million to $1.5 million in timber sales for the county over the coming years.
During his update, Rosanbalm also said DNR’s Olympic regional team has seen a lot of turnover since the beginning of the year.
“Since the first of the year, I’ve lost almost 200 years of experience,” he said. “”It’s a big rollover in state lands. So, a lot of new bodies, new faces.”
Rosanbalm said he expects to retire in a year and a half.
Recruitment for filling positions is going well, he added.
