PORT ANGELES — A special benefit dinner and dance will raise funds for new playground equipment at Shane Park on Saturday.
The Shane Park Playground Pasta Bar Dinner & Dance will begin at 6 p.m. with a social hour at the Elks Naval Lodge, 131 E. First St. Dinner will be served by “celebrity” waiters at 7 p.m.
Advance tickets are available until Tuesday. Tickets are $30 per person or $50 per couple.
Those who want to attend only the dance can buy a ticket for $10 at the door between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m.
The size of the new playground will be approximately 111 feet by 57 feet and will feature several slides, climbing areas, swings and safety surfaces.
The total cost for the new playground is $130,000, said Teresa Pierce, city spokeswoman.
While the city has set aside $60,000 in the 2011 budget for the project, the remainder must be raised before equipment is purchased.
Seeking grants
The city and the Shane Park Committee are seeking grants, Pierce said.
Tickets are available at Northwest Fudge, Odyssey Bookstore, Laurel Lanes, Port Book & News, and Necessities and Temptations gift shop.
Donations, with checks made out to the Kiwanis Club, can be mailed to Shane Park Playground, P.O. Box 1064, Port Angeles, WA 98362.
