PORT ANGELES — Few Port Angeles schools have sufficient numbers of smoke detectors, many have plugged leaks, and most electrical systems are at maximum use.
Port Angeles High School, for one, has few smoke detectors and most buildings have none.
“The buildings have heat detectors in the mechanical rooms, and a few have smoke sensors,” said Nolan Duce, supervisor of facilities for the district.
All buildings throughout the school district have manual-pull fire alarms to evacuate a building in case of a fire, but automatic detection and fire sprinklers are rare.
“If they were built today these buildings would not meet code,” Duce said.
These are just a few of the building issues Port Angeles School District will discuss at a Thursday meeting.
The public forum will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Port Angeles Senior Services and Community Center, 328 E. Seventh St.
