PORT ANGELES — Documenting their foray into graffiti led to the arrest of three Port Angeles High School students suspected of spray-painting district property, police said Friday.
The three girls, two 15-year-olds and a 16-year-old, were booked into the Clallam County Youth Center on Thursday for investigation of malicious mischief.
On Monday, district officials reported that the skills center and the old Lincoln School on the 900 block of West Ninth Street had been hit by spray paint and that a district vehicle had its brake lines damaged.
Later in the week, a Port Angeles High School staff member notified Officer Gerald Swayze that a female student had been displaying digital pictures on a cell phone showing two females posing in front of the graffiti.
The girls were arrested, and investigators recovered a can of spray paint they believe was used and articles of clothing stained with the same paint.
Police did not seize the cell phone, but downloaded the photos showing the girls posing beside the graffiti, said Port Angeles Police Detective Sgt. Steve Coyle.
The girls were booked for investigation of malicious mischief in connection to the spray-painting.
However, they were not booked for investigation of the damaged brake lines, Coyle said.
