Three taken to hospital following two-vehicle wreck at Lake Crescent

LAKE CRESCENT — Three people were taken to Olympic Medical Center after a head-on wreck on U.S. Highway 101 at Lake Crescent late Wednesday, Clallam County Fire District No. 2 officials said.

A Chevrolet pickup was traveling eastbound when it collided with a westbound 2004 Ford Taurus near Barnes Point shortly after 10 p.m., Fire District No. 2 Assistant Chief Mike DeRousie said.

The Taurus traveled about 20 feet down an embankment after the crash, he said.

The driver of the pickup and the driver and passenger in the car were taken to OMC in Port Angeles with unknown injuries.

The identities of the patients were not provided by the fire department.

State Patrol spokesman Trooper Russ Winger said the collision was investigated by Olympic National Park. He had no further information on the crash.

Olympic National Park spokeswoman Penny Wagner was not immediately available for comment Thursday.

Both vehicles were damaged on the front driver’s side, DeRousie said.

The state Department of Transportation said the collision occurred at about 10:08 p.m. in the westbound lane near milepost 227.

The collision was cleared at 2:25 a.m., Transportation officials said.

Fire District No. 2 responded with 22 firefighters, two engines, three ambulances, one brush engine and two command vehicles, DeRousie said.
