PORT TOWNSEND — The Jefferson County Auditor’s Office posted no candidate filings the last day of a special extended filing period Friday.
The three-day extended filing period was for positions that drew no candidates during the regular candidate filing period earlier this month for the Nov. 8 general election.
The following seats still lack any candidates, according to the postings on the Jefferson County elections website at http://tinyurl.com/3u3n4vw.
■ Queets Fire District No. 7, Commissioner Position No. 3, incumbent Cliff Hay.
■ Brinnon Cemetery District No. 1, Commissioner Position No. 1, incumbent Karl Springer.
■ Gardiner Cemetery District No. 3, Commissioner Position No. 3, incumbent Richard A. Quinnell.
When no one files for a seat, the position is stricken from the general election ballot, the incumbent will stay in office, and the position will come up for election in 2013.
If the incumbent resigns, the commission or board on which he or she sat will appoint a member, and the position will be up for election in 2013.
Incumbents stay
William P. Gallant filed Thursday for the open Gardiner Fire District No. 5, Commissioner Position.
On Wednesday, the first day of the extended filing period, Shirlee Beck filed for the vacant Quilcene Cemetery District, Commissioner Position No. 2.
If three or more candidates file for a position, they all advance to the Aug. 16 primary, and the top two vote-getters will head to the Nov. 8 general election.
Primary election ballots will be mailed Wednesday, July 27.
There are 48 positions up for election Nov. 8.
