PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles woman was injured Tuesday when the minivan she was driving was rear-ended by an SUV on U.S. Highway 101 during a three-vehicle collision at the Brooke Avenue stoplight, the State Patrol said.
Sky A. Heatherton, 76, was transported to Olympic Medical Center after the Dodge Caravan she was driving was struck by a Nissan Xterra driven by Mark D. Shaw, 52, also of Port Angeles, troopers said in a collision memo.
Heatherton was treated and discharged from OMC, hospital spokeswoman Bobby Beeman said.
The impact caused the Caravan that Heatherton was driving to collide with a Chevrolet Silverado driven by Mark G. Lummis, 73, of Sequim, at the traffic signal just east of Port Angeles.
Shaw was injured in the crash but was not taken to a hospital, troopers said. Lummis was not injured.
The crash was reported at 9:15 a.m. All three vehicles were westbound on Highway 101 approaching Brooke Avenue at about 9:15 a.m. Vehicles driven by Heatherton and Lummis were slowed for the traffic light. Shaw was unable to stop, the State Patrol said, and it struck Heatherton’s minivan, which smashed into Lummis’ vehicle.
Shaw was cited with following too closely, the State Patrol memo said.
One westbound lane of U.S. Highway 101 was blocked for about 45 minutes as troopers investigated.
All three drivers were wearing seat belts, and drugs or alcohol were not suspected as factors in the wreck, troopers said.
