Temporary DCD director, conservation futures before counties

Meetings in Clallam, Jefferson counties

Governmental entities plan meetings on the North Olympic Peninsula next week.

Clallam County

The three Clallam County commissioners will discuss appointing a temporary director for the Department of Community Development during their weekly work session Monday.

The commissioners’ work session, at 9 a.m. Monday, will preview items set for action at their formal meeting, which starts at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The hybrid meetings are in the county commissioners meeting room in the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Agenda items include:

• A notice of a public hearing at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, regarding the repeal of the county code related to massage parlors and public bath houses.

• A discussion regarding an emergency resolution to expedite the Lower Dungeness Floodplain Restoration project.

• An update on the emergency resolution to repair the HVAC system at the county’s Juvenile and Family Services facility.

• Authorization for Don Crawford to sign closing documents to purchase the tidelands Cline Spit adjacent to the county park.

• An amended agreement with the state Administrative Office of the Courts for reimbursement of county expenditures related to the State v. Blake decision.

• An update from the state Parks and Recreation Commission on the potential acquisition of a 17-acre parcel adjacent to Hoko River State Park.

• A quarterly update from Steve Burke on the Small Business Development Center.

• Appointments to various boards and commissions.

The three Jefferson County commissioners will conduct public hearings related to four conservation futures projects when they meet at 9 a.m. Monday.

The commissioners will hear an update on COVID-19 from Dr. Allison Berry, health officer for Jefferson and Clallam counties, at 9:45 a.m.; conduct a public hearing at 11 a.m. related to aligning the county’s lodging tax code with state statutes; conduct a workshop regarding the proposed Caswell Brown Village lease; consider resignations from and appointments to various volunteer boards and commissions; and meet in executive session with the chief civil deputy prosecuting attorney, the deputy prosecuting attorney for district III, the public works director/county engineer, the public works sewer project manager, the director and the planning manager for the Department of Community Development regarding potential litigation.

Items on the consent agenda include a resolution establishing objectives and procedures for its mid-biennium budget review, a resolution to construct a road and utilities on a portion of Charles Street, an agreement with FEMA regarding removal of snow and trees from public roads in January 2022, an amended agreement with Olympic Community Action Programs for and additional $3,701 for transitional housing services and an amended agreement with the Department of Health for an additional $221,343 of funding to provide public health services.

Assoc. of counties

The Washington State Association of Counties will hear a weekly update on COVID-19 when they meet at noon Monday.

Both Clallam and Jefferson counties will participate.

Clallam County planning

The Clallam County Planning Commission will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Port of Port Angeles

Port of Port Angeles commissioners will discuss port leasing policy during a special meeting at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

The Port Angles City Council will conduct a public hearing on variance application No. 22-19 at 9:30 a.m. Friday.

The State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) hearing is on an application to reduce the rear and side setback and waive the residential off-street parking requirement for the construction of a single-household dwelling.

Port Townsend city

The Port Townsend City Council will discuss the COVID-related utility financial assistance program when it meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday. The hybrid meeting will be in council chambers at historic City Hall, 540 Water St.

The council also will consider a resolution authorizing a Transportation Improvement Board grant application, discuss a contract for consulting services for Lord’s Lake dam stability project, set a public hearing on banked capacity projects, relinquish the easement from prior-vacated Fourth Street and consider a resolution for the city manager to execute contracts to address storm damage.

Quilcene schools

The Quilcene School Board will review its 2022-2023 calendar when it meets at 6 p.m. Monday.

The board will meet in Room 9 at 294715 U.S. Highway 101, Quilcene.
