PORT ANGELES — A teenage girl was found dead, hanging from a tree, in the Peabody Creek ravine Saturday.
The Port Angeles police responded to the report but declined to comment, including providing the name of the girl.
Those who knew her said she was 15 years old.
Two girls — Asia Ladd, 12, and Holly Owens, 13 — said they found her hanging from a rope swing at around 12:50 p.m. behind the 800 block of Whidby Street.
The rope was around her neck, they said.
Gone to play
The two girls had gone to the ravine to play.
“I wanted to go swing,” Holly said.
The girls reported it to a neighbor and to Asia’s father, Timothy Ladd.
“I told them not to go down there because it is dangerous,” he said.
Police and firefighters removed the girl’s body that afternoon.
Bekah Clark, who lives in the neighborhood, said she knew the girl.
“To think that’s the only way out, that’s really sad,” she said.
