TACOMA — Senior Eddy Williams ran for three touchdowns and caught a 78-yard TD pass to lead Lummi to a 55-30 victory over Cusick on Friday night in the Washington Class 1B prep football championship game at the Tacoma Dome.
It was the first title for the Blackhawks (13-1) from Bellingham, who came up with a huge second half, outscoring Cusick 39-6 in the eight-man contest.
Lummi beat Neah Bay twice, including last week in the state playoffs, to advance to Friday night’s finals.
Lummi trailed 24-16 at the half but scored three straight touchdowns, highlighted by Williams’ long pass from Jeremy Roberts, to take the lead for good at 36-24.
Tyler Edwards led Cusick (12-2) throwing for three touchdowns, running for another and intercepting a pass on defense. Edwards threw for 312 yards but was intercepted three times. It was the first title game for Cusick, located northwest of Spokane.
The Blackhawks had made it to the finals in two of the past four years, losing both times.
Eric Robinson also had a big game for Lummi, with touchdown runs of 7 and 38 yards and a 51-yard TD pass reception. Williams ended up with 157 rushing yards, Robinson with 135.
In typical eight-man fashion, Lummi accounted for 512 yards of total offense, Cusick 434.
