PORT ANGELES — Food lovers can nibble on exciting new dishes, bid on getaway trips and enjoy live music (and have plenty of time to later attend the symphony) at the third annual “A Taste of the Peninsula.”
“Take your taste buds on a tour of the North Olympic Peninsula without making a single restaurant reservation!” says organizer Getta Rogers.
“This will be a splendid evening that features the Peninsula’s culinary talent, wineries and food products, many prepared with fresh fish and locally harvested ingredients from farms like Nash’s Organic Produce and Lazy J Tree Farm.”
A benefit for the Clallam County Family YMCA’s community programs, “A Taste of the Peninsula” will be held at the Elks Naval Lodge, 131 E. First St., in downtown Port Angeles, from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7.
The event will showcase signature entrées from Peninsula restaurants and bistros and related businesses.
You can browse the silent auction items while you eat, or get a table with friends, plus taste premium vintages from the Peninsula’s wineries and soak up music by the Taste of Jazz Quintet.
The event is also timed so you can attend the Port Angeles’ Symphony concert that evening.
The concert — “Song and Dances with Alex Dugdale” — begins in the Port Angeles High School Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.
“Taste” tickets, which come with a two-week YMCA fitness pass, are $45 and available at the YMCA, 302 S. Francis St. in Port Angeles; at two Sound Community Bank offices, 110 N. Alder St. in Port Angeles and 541 N. 5th Ave. in Sequim; and by phoning 360-452-9244.
Cuisine will be provided by Oven Spoonful, Joy’s Wine Bistro, Michael’s Seafood & Steakhouse and Raindrop Desserts & Chocolates, all of Port Angeles; Alder Wood Bistro, Bell Street Bakery, Double Eagle Steak & Seafood (at Cedars at Dungeness Golf Course) and Yvonne’s Chocolates, all of Sequim; and Mt. Townsend Creamery and Pane d’Amore Bakery of Port Townsend.
Local wineries
Wineries include Black Diamond, Camaraderie Cellars, Harbinger Winery and Olympic Cellars from Port Angeles; and Sorensen Cellars, FairWinds Winery and Eaglemount Wine & Cider from Port Townsend.
Locally roasted Princess Valiant Coffee will be available, as will fresh-pressed fall cider from Sunny Farms.
Dozens of silent auction items will be offered.
Items include a one-week stay in a Puerto Vallerta, Mexico, condo for up to four people; other getaway travel packages; bottles of fine wines; six round trip tickets between Port Angeles and Seattle on Kenmore Air; gift certificates for a laser facial and other beauty treatments; kayak trips; five yards of delivered topsoil; free advertising in the Peninsula Daily News; and restaurant dinners for two.
A YMCA Community Art School exhibit at the event will feature works made of fused glass, clay and objects taken from nature.
