SEQUIM — Swain’s Outdoor, a longtime Sequim outlet for fishing gear, long johns, hunting licenses and stylish hiking clothes, is shutting down.
The 10,000-square-foot store will be closed for good by the end of July at the latest, co-owner Glenda Swain Cable said Tuesday.
The change does not affect Swain’s General Store in Port Angeles, which has a different owner.
“It’s the economy. It’s Sequim bringing in these box stores. It’s an unsupportive bank,” Swain Cable added, though she declined to name the bank.
Her son, Grant Cable, manager of the Sequim Swain’s Outdoor at 551 W. Washington St., said he and any leftover inventory will move to the Swain’s Outdoor in Port Townsend.
His tentative time line has merchandise moving and the Sequim store closing by the end of June.
That 22,000-square-foot Port Townsend store, downtown at 1121 Water St., has been an institution since 1996.
