SEQUIM — Friday’s clouds and rain gave way to blue skies and pleasant breezes Saturday for the Sequim Lavender Festival.
The ideal conditions drew thousands of people to the downtown Street Fair and the fragrant lavender fields across the area.
“The place is totally packed,” said festival director Scott Nagel on Saturday.
“The sun came out, and it’s just wonderful.”
Less-than-ideal weather on Friday potentially decreased attendance by as much as 30 percent compared to last year’s opening day, Nagel said.
However, those who came were spending money. Sales of lavender products appear to have increased, Nagel said.
Sales of admission buttons to the tour of lavender farms stayed on track as well. The goal is to sell 15,000 this weekend; 5,000 were sold Friday, Nagel said.
“With that much rain, you would expect not-happy people,” he said.
“But they did really well.”
