Stricken football player walking with help now

Sequim High School football player Adrien Gault was in satisfactory condition Wednesday night at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle as he recovers from surgery.

Gault had surgery to repair a brain hemorrhage after he was airlifted to a Seattle hospital during Friday night’s game.

Gault’s stepfather Kevin McCarter said the 17-year old is now able to stand and walk with the help of a physical therapist.

“He’s doing well,” McCarter said. “He’s making progress.

“His motor skills are all working well so there’s not going to be any permanent damage or anything.”

A donation fund for Gault was set up this week to help the family defray expenses.

“It’s very expensive” for Gault’s mother, Patricia, to find housing in Seattle while she stays close to her son, said Troye Jarmuth, who set up the fund.

McCarter said the doctors don’t know how long it will take for Gault to recover.

“He’s got to get to a certain point,” McCarter said. “He’s got some work he’s got to do here.”

Donations can be made at the Sound Community Bank in Sequim, 541 N. Fifth Ave, either by dropping by or mailing a check to the bank.

The North Peninsula Builders Association has already donated $1,000, said Jarmuth on Wednesday.

“We just learned today that the members had stepped up and said they wanted to do that.”

Gault was airlifted to the hospital after he had experienced seizures and slipped into a coma during a home game against North Mason High School.

Jarmuth, of Jarmuth Electric in Sequim, said that Gault’s stepfather had worked as an electrician for the company for 11 years, leaving only 60 days ago to join another company.
