Strait ecosystem group to meet in Blyn

BLYN — Members of the Strait of Juan de Fuca Ecosystem Recovery Network will hear an update on the state Department of Ecology’s investigation of Port Angeles Harbor sediment when they meet Friday.

The quarterly meeting of the group, also known as Strait ERN, will take place from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Red Cedar Meeting Hall at the Jamestown S’Klallam Community Center, 1033 Old Blyn Highway, in Blyn.

The meeting is open to the public, said John Cambalik, coordinator of Strait ERN.

Members of the group also will discuss final draft comments on Environmental Protection Agency funding proposals.

Other agenda items include decisions on 2013 meeting dates and an update on the Puget Sound Partnership’s cost and budget information for their local near-term actions, which include salmon recovery projects and work on shoreline master programs along the Strait of Juna de Fuca, Cambalik said.

Stait ERN is one of the Puget Sound Partnership’s local integrating organizations tasked with implementing specific actions for Puget Sound protection and recovery.

Members of the Strait ERN include all the local governments along the Strait of Juan de Fuca, including the cities of Port Angeles, Sequim, Port Townsend and Clallam and Jefferson counties, Cambalik said, and various business groups, educational organizations and nonprofit groups.
