PORT HADLOCK —
On May 09, 2013, at about 0205 AM, a JCSO Deputy attempted to perform a routine traffic stop on Chimacum Road in Port Hadlock for a vehicle displaying defective lighting.
The driver of the vehicle attempted to elude the Deputy by turning onto side streets and cutting through parking lots, reaching speeds of at least 80 MPH in 25 MPH zones.
After an approximate 2 minute pursuit, the vehicle drove into the yard of a private residence on Brighton Ave, where the male driver leapt from the driver’s door of the vehicle while it was still in motion, moments before it careened over a 150 foot embankment.
The deputy could hear a female screaming from within the vehicle as it went over the bank.
Deputies located the vehicle where it came to rest on N. Water Street, but were unable to locate the driver or passenger.
The 1993 Ford Explorer was totally destroyed. It was determined that the vehicle had been stolen from a Hadlock Ave. in Port Hadlock residence during the night of May 05/06, 2013.
On May 09, 2013 at about 1257 PM, a man on Blanche Ave. in Port Hadlock reported that his 1991 Chevrolet S-10 pickup had been stolen during the night or early morning hours.
Deputies soon located the Chevrolet parked at a residence on Stevens St., and maintained surveillance on the vehicle until the female resident of the home arrived.
The woman identified the driver of the pickup, and consented for deputies to search her home for him.
Deputies located 28-year-old Cordis E. McBride of Port Hadlock cowering under a bed in the residence.
McBride was booked into the JCSO jail on 2 counts of possessing stolen vehicles, attempting to elude a police vehicle, vehicular assault and driving with a suspended license.
Deputies have identified the female who was in the Explorer during the collision and are attempting to determine the extent of her injuries.
