PORT ANGELES — A fake bomb threat emailed Thursday morning to two teachers at Stevens Middle School was traced to Russian and Chinese IP addresses, district officials said.
CNN reported Thursday that dozens of businesses and institutions across the United States and Canada received email threats Thursday afternoon, prompting evacuations and sweeps of buildings.
Authorities said the threats were not credible, according to news reports that said the FBI was investigating the threats.
The email to Stevens Middle School said a bomb would be detonated at the school unless they were given “a large sum of money,” school district spokeswoman Patsene Dashiell said in a prepared statement.
Police who searched the middle school determined there was no danger.
Technology staff traced the IP address to Russia and China.
The same email message was received by Bothell School District and University of Washington staff, Dashiell said.
