PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Education Foundation has announced the award of Pollanz Promise scholarships to students at Stevens Middle School.
Eighth-graders Alorah Murray and Hailey Fisher were each awarded the promise of a $32,000 college scholarship by the family of Gladys Christopher Pollanz.
To qualify for the scholarship, each must maintain a 3.0 grade-point average through high school and attend a four-year college.
Pollanz, a 1923 graduate of Roosevelt High School, bequeathed $1 million to establish the scholarship fund which has awarded promise scholarships to middle school students since 2005.
The other five finalists, also eighth-graders from Stevens Middle School, are Nova Onyx Raupp, Autumn Hudgins, Keely Peirce, Deckard Vaughan and Estrella Wasankari.
Each of them will be awarded $1,000 on graduating from high school with a 3.0 grade point average and will be eligible to apply for a Pollanz Scholarship during their senior year.
