PORT ANGELES — State Director of Commerce Rogers Weed will hold a public meeting in Port Angeles on Tuesday to discuss Washington’s economy.
The Commerce Connections meeting, which begins at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in the City Council Chambers, 321 E. Fifth St., is the last of a series of public meetings held throughout Washington this month.
“We pledged to continue the ongoing dialogue started last year when we conducted more than 100 ‘Commerce Connections’ meetings across the state with businesses, local governments, community and housing organizations, legislators, and others,” the Department of Commerce website said.
“We also solicited input on-line from thousands more individuals and did extensive competitive research, including a survey of how other state departments of ‘commerce’ and economic development agencies are organized.”
The agenda includes: the economy, the state budget, creating jobs and short-, medium- and long-term trends.
The meeting will last until 11:30 a.m.
Weed also will address three major questions pertinent to Washington:
• Is it time for a different funding model and structure for tourism?
• What are the essential elements the state should focus on to have thriving communities?
• What can we do to restore funding/financing for local infrastructure investment?
