TACOMA –Sequim senior Alex Barry is the Class 2A state champion in the javelin.
Barry threw the javelin 185 feet, 1 inch to earn the title at Mount Tahoma High School on Friday morning.
Jackson Oliver added to the Wolves’ state accomplishments with a second-place finish in the high jump.
Oliver and three others jumped 6-04, but Kingston’s Max English wins the title by judge’s decision based on misses.
On Thursday, a pair of Port Angeles distance runner earned spots on the podium.
Senior Peter Butler placed seventh in the boys 1,600, and freshman Gracie Long finished eighth in the girls 1,600.
1B/1A MEET
CHENEY – Paul Frantz won a medal on the first day of his first state track and field meet.
The Crescent freshman took third in the 1,600-meter run at the Class 1B meet Thursday night at Eastern Washington University.
Frantz’s teammate, Martin Waldrip, placed 10th in the 1,600 to narrowly miss the podium.
In the 1B girls 3,200, Kaylin Signor earned a sixth-place medal Thursday.
Neah Bay’s Faye Chartraw earned her second straight third-place finish in the 1B shot put Friday. Clallam Bay’s Sami Metcalf also medaled, taking seventh, while Crescent’s Shannon Williams placed 10th.
