State Supreme Court justices to visit Jefferson County on Friday

Chief Justice Barbara Madsen and Justice Mary Yu will present a session on key state Supreme Court decisions.

CHIMACUM — The state Supreme Court’s chief justice and its most junior justice will visit Jefferson County on Friday to teach a class about important court decisions from the past year.

Chief Justice Barbara Madsen and Justice Mary Yu will present the session on key state Supreme Court decisions at 4 p.m. at Finnriver Farm &Cidery, 124 Center Road, Chimacum.

The event is a Continuing Legal Education session for the Jefferson County Bar Association.

It is open to the public, depending on available space.

Those interested should check with Rafael Urquia at rafael@urquialaw.com or 360-390-4104 before the event.

Earlier in the day, Yu will visit Port Townsend to tour Jefferson County’s alternative juvenile justice facility, Proctor House. The tour is not open to the public.

“I’m very excited about this opportunity to visit Jefferson County and hear from the people who are on the ground and working in our legal system each day, especially with our youth,” Yu said in a news release.

“Our Supreme Court decisions aren’t just theoretical, they affect the lives of real people, so it’s important that we take the time to visit our diverse communities and learn from the experience of others, and to see the good work being done around the state.”

Madsen and Yu are seeking re-election to the state’s highest court in November.
