State Patrol seeks witnesses to motorcycle fatality; unrelated motorcycle crash only two hours later

PORT ANGELES – State troopers are looking for witnesses who watched a car change lanes on U.S. Highway 101’s Morse Creek “S” curve and strike a motorcycle, killing the motorcyclist from Sequim.

The collision was one of two involving motorcycles in the Port Angeles area in about a two-hour span, authorities reported.

The second crash – on a Port Angeles residential street – left the motorcyclist in critical condition.

Washington State Patrol spokesman Trooper Brian George said the fatal crash occurred at 4:22 p.m. at Morse Creek, where U.S. 101 makes a curvy descent and ascent through the creek’s gorge.

The driver of a Toyota sedan changed from the left lane to the right lane at the bottom near the Morse Creek bridge.

The Toyota struck the 2005 Honda motorcycle, then drove off, George said.

The motorcyclist, identified late Monday as Donald Niel Davison II, 51, of Sequim, was taken to Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles, where he later died.

Davison was wearing a helmet, according to the State Patrol.

The driver of the car was described as an elderly female with short, white, curly hair.

Witnesses said the car she was driving was a late 1980s or early ’90s blue or gray, four-door Toyota, possibly a Camry or Corolla, George reported.

The State Patrol is seeking the driver or additional witnesses, he said.

“We want to contact this driver,” George said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the State Patrol’s Port Angeles Detachment office at 360-417-1738.
